Can You Change a Card's Cover After Creating It?

You made the card in a hurry, shared the link, and now the cover isn't quite right — a typo in the name, a message that reads oddly, text sitting across someone's face in the photo. Here's what you can fix from the dashboard, what you can't, and what to do about the one thing you can't.

What you can change, any time

Sign in, open your dashboard, find the card and choose Edit Card from its menu. Everything in that dialog is live-editable and takes effect the moment you save — signers and the recipient see the new version next time they open their link. You can change:

    • The recipient's name — the big text on the cover.
    • The subtitle underneath it.
    • The cover message — the line that sets the tone.
    • Where the text sits on the cover, its colour, its font, and how strong the overlay behind it is. The preview in the dialog updates as you adjust, so you can move the words off a face or onto the plain part of a photo.
    • The closing message that appears at the end of the card.
    • The date and time signing closes — or remove it altogether.

That covers nearly every "I need to fix the cover" message we receive. A wrong name, a message you'd phrase differently, text that's hard to read on the picture — all of those are two clicks away, and nothing you've already collected is affected. Messages people have added stay exactly as they are.

What you can't change: the picture itself

The one thing fixed at creation is the cover image — whether that's the template you picked or a photo you uploaded onto the blank canvas. The edit dialog shows it so you can style text over it, but there's no option to swap it for a different template or upload a new picture.

We'd rather be straight about this than have you hunting for a button that isn't there. It's a limitation we know about, and one we're weighing up — the difficulty is that the text styling is tuned to a specific image, and swapping the image underneath collected messages has a few sharp edges we'd want to handle properly rather than half-way.

If the picture really does need to change

The honest workaround is to create a new card with the right cover. Two things to know before you do:

    • Messages don't transfer between cards. If people have already signed, they'd need to sign the new one — so this is worth doing early, before the link has gone far, or not at all once it has.
    • You can keep the old card until you're sure. Create the new one, share the new link, and delete the old card from the dashboard once everyone's moved across. Nothing forces you to delete first.

If the card already has a good number of messages on it, our genuine advice is to keep the picture and fix everything else. A slightly-off image with twenty warm messages inside beats a perfect image with three.

    Getting it right first time

Because the image is the one thing that sticks, it's worth ten extra seconds at creation. If you're uploading your own photo, pick one where the important part isn't where the text will land — you can move the text, but you can't move the person. And use the preview: it shows exactly what the recipient will see, before anyone else does.

One more edge: once a card has expired — 30 days after creation — it becomes read-only and Edit is no longer offered. You can still view it and download it as a PDF, but the cover is what it is at that point.
