How to Change When Your Card Closes for Signing
The leaving do got moved. Half the team were on holiday. Someone important hasn't signed yet. Whatever the reason, the closing date you set when you made the card isn't fixed — you can move it, remove it, or reopen a card that's already closed, all from the dashboard.
Changing the closing date and time
- 1.Sign in and open your dashboard.
- 2.Find the card and choose Edit Card from its menu.
- 3.Scroll to the field labelled "Close signing on". It takes a date and a time, in your own local time zone.
- 4.Pick the new moment and save. It takes effect immediately.
The time part matters more than people expect. "Friday" in your head usually means "before the handover on Friday afternoon", so set it to 3pm rather than leaving it at midnight — otherwise the card stays open through Friday evening, when you may already have printed it.
Removing the closing date entirely
Clear the field and save. With no closing date, the card simply keeps collecting messages until it expires — more on that below. This is the right choice for cards with no real deadline, like a get-well card or a new-baby card, where a late message is still a welcome one.
Reopening a card that has already closed
If the date has passed and the signing page is showing "no longer accepting messages", you're not stuck. Set a new closing date in the future and save — the card reopens for signing until then, and the same signing link works again. You don't need to re-share anything.
You'll also see Close Signing and Re-open Signing in the card's menu for the blunt version. Close Signing stops it immediately. Re-open Signing opens it back up and clears the closing date altogether, so the card then runs until it expires — if you want a specific new deadline, use Edit Card instead.
The three dates, and what each one does
This is where most of the confusion lives, so it's worth being precise. A card can have up to three dates on it, and they do different jobs:
- →Closing date — optional, and yours to set. When signing stops. Change it as often as you like.
- →Delivery date — optional. When the recipient link starts working. Until then, the finished card shows a "not available yet" page to anyone who opens it. It has nothing to do with when signing closes; you can set both, either, or neither.
- →Expiry — fixed, 30 days after the card was created, and the real ceiling. Nothing stops you typing a closing date beyond it, but signing still stops at the 30-day mark. After that the card is read-only: still viewable, still downloadable as a PDF, no longer editable.
And separately from all three: the card and its link are deleted six months after creation. That isn't a signing date at all — it's when the data goes. If you or the recipient want a permanent copy, download the PDF before then.
What signers see when it's closed
Once the closing time passes, anyone opening the signing link sees a message that signing has ended, with a button to view the card as it stands. Nothing they'd already added is affected. If you reopen it, that same link goes straight back to the signing form.
One small thing worth knowing: it's the time you set, not the end of that day. Someone opening the signing link at 3:01pm against a 3pm close gets the closed page, not the form. So when you announce a deadline to the team, quote the time as well as the day — "Friday" and "Friday 3pm" are heard very differently.
